All of us want to achieve something in our life, something concrete, whether at a professional level or at a personal level. For achieving it, we can either take a shortcut which may be favourable only for a short term, or we can work hard and earn the success for the longer run. Moreover, success is something which does not end when it is achieved. Rather, achievement is just the beginning and to retain it as long as possible defines one’s character. Such successful personalities are motivators for the society and today, I am talking about one such personality: a wrestling entertainer, a professional athlete and a super star, all in one – Phillip Jack Brooks, better known by his ring name as CM Punk. Born on October 26, 1978, he is an American professional wrestler and is currently working under WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment).
An eight-time World Champion and the man to achieve the honour of being a fastest Triple Crown Champion (a wrestler who has won the WWE Championship, the Intercontinental Championship, and the World Tag Team Championship) in just 203 days, CM Punk is also the “the longest-reigning WWE Champion of the modern era“. He held the title for 434 days including the full calendar year of 2012 and is officially recognized as the sixth-longest reigning champion of all time, and the longest-reigning of the last quarter decade.
He is an intelligent athlete and knows how to draw reactions from the audience and act according to the demands of the WWE Universe. He is a crowd favourite and is the only wrestler to win Money in the Bank ladder matches twice in a row, in 2008 and 2009.
The most inspirational quality that Punk possess is that throughout his career, he has consistently refrained from using alcohol, tobacco, and other recreational drugs and is the only straight edge champion of today’s era. He follows the principle of being straight edge in his actual day-to-day life too. This is a strategy that requires tremendous courage, self-control and belief in oneself.
CM Punk has a great entrance with his current theme “Cult of Personality“. He believes in himself as a leader. He was once ‘the voice of the voiceless’ that acted as a motivator for new rookies. “Be yourself” is what he follows and he knows that he is better than everyone else out there. He is a great wrestler with a strong mind who knows how to deliver perfection when needed.
He knows what to do in every single situation. He always believed in power to change things through his strength on the mic and was able to project the working of the company in front of its audience. Along with the legends like Rock and Cena, Punk is arguably one of the greatest of all time on the mic. When the mic is in his hand, it’s definitely a “pipe bomb” as anything can go down when Punk speaks. Punk always tries to push the limits on the mic and entertains his followers. Whether it’s in the ring or on the mic, a separate aura surrounds him. He is a unique superstar. He always pushed the boundaries of pain and moved in unlocking the smarts in just the right way.
Punk is a Pescetarian. Pescetarian is the practice of a diet that includes seafood but not the flesh of other animals. A Pescetarian diet shares many of its components with a vegetarian diet and includes vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains, beans, eggs, and dairy, but unlike a vegetarian diet, also includes fish and shellfish. One of the most commonly cited reasons is that of health, based on findings that red meat is detrimental to health in many cases due to non-lean red meats containing high amounts of saturated fats.
Punk is a true Champion and an inspiration to me and many more especially when I feel low He motivates me to work harder and to be myself and not imitate anyone else because success to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life, but by the obstacles which he has overcome. To conclude, I would love to quote three lines from his theme song:
“A leader speaks, that leader dies
You don’t have to follow me
Only you can set you free”
