Stone Cold Steve
Austin doing media means questions on a potential return to WWE for one more
match. This time, he's given an even more interesting answerthan ever beforeI
think we can all agree that it would be nice to see Stone Cold Steve Austin
climb back inside a WWE ring for one more match, particularly against current
WWE Champion CM Punk.
But what if he's
not healthy enough, as evidenced by the serious knee surgery he recently
underwent or the various neck problems that ended his career early?
In an interview
with the Busted Open radio show (via ProWrestling.net), Austin said
his health isn't the issue and it never has been:
· "It's
not even about being cleared. I'm 100 percent fine. Once I had my fusion done
in 2000 and I went into the recovery phase and then got back in the ring,
everything was fine and dandy. I was just running too hard towards the end and
had a few issues. It was time to get out. Passing the physical isn't the
issue."
That runs
contrary to popular reports citing sources close to Austin who have said his
neck is worse off than he likes to pretend. Those same reports have said it's
highly unlikely "The Texas Rattlesnake" ever actually seriously
considers a return for any kind of program that stretches longer than a single
episode of Monday
Night Raw.
But let's assume
Austin is telling the truth and he's healthy enough to return. Is Punk the guy
he would work with? He says Punk is tops on the list but he's not the only
option:
· "I think John Cena
would be a guy as well. I really like John. He is the face of that company
right now and he has done a hell of a job and I got a lot of respect for him.
You look at a guy like Triple H, that was one of my favorite guys to work in
the ring with. Such a ring general and such a pro. Just an easy night at the
office. Undertaker is kind of beat to shreds, kind of like me. Those would be a
few guys off the top of my head. Would it just be CM Punk? No. Is CM Punk at
the top of the list? Yes!"
But he, too,
said not to expect it to happen. All the right pieces would have to be in place
and the situation would have to be nearly perfect for all parties. Seeing as
that's a near impossibility, especially anytime soon, it would seem prudent to
simply take note of this latest development, allow yourself to keep that sliver
of hope it could happen, and go on about your business getting excited for WrestleMania season.
F4Wonline.com is
reporting there was some doubt on Stone Cold Steve Austin's status and
availability for the 20th anniversary episode of RAW.
According to the reports, something has changed over
the weekend and it seems very likely he'll be part of the big show in Houston,
Texas on 1/14. It has been reported that WWE is planning on making this show
big with the names and surprises they use.
By now, you or someone you know has whispered of a CM
Punk-Stone Cold Steve Austin match taking place in the near future.
Those whispers are no longer whispers. Rumors are
flying high as we head towards the end of 2012.
What better place for CM Punk and Steve Austin to go
toe-to-toe than at WrestleMania 29?
We saw the return of The Rock
at WrestleMania 28 in Miami earlier this year, and Steve Austin could
be the next legend to lace up his boots once again.
On October 30, WWE will be releasing the WWE '13 video
game, which prominently features Austin.
In a recent face-to-face interview conducted
by Jim Ross, Austin and Punk talked firsthand on what it would be like if they
squared off.
A confident Austin said, "The only reason why
that belt is sitting in your lap is because I haven't tried to take it."
Punk replied, "A match with Stone Cold would be
just another 'W' in the win column."
With WWE trying to push its video game
release, and as the official sponsor of WWEHell in a Cell in two weeks,
don't be surprised if we see an appearance from Austin himself.
On the October 15 episode of Monday Night Raw, Punk is
to pick which opponent he will face inside of the cell in two
weeks: Ryback or John Cena.
Could the glass shatter on CM Punk's night in
Nashville? You just never know.
With Vince McMahon in tow and Jim Ross at ringside,
this could be a night to remember, just like old times.
I expect nothing less than to see Austin inside of
the WWE squared circle in the coming weeks. But a match
at WrestleMania 29? That is a tough one to take on.
